Tuesday afternoon, I attended a rally calling for Senators Gillibrand and Schumer: Strengthen Our Healthcare.
Organized by Rise and Resist, the action called for the senators to push for improvements to the Affordable Care Act:
Our Senators are going back to D.C. on the 6th, so we're having a "Back to Work" send off to urge them to make healthcare available and affordable for everyone. We will have giant lunchboxes filled with people's ideas on how to improve healthcare in the U.S. Leave your ideas on this page and we will include them in the lunchboxes!"
Arriving at the action, I saw several of my friends from ACT UP. Eustacia Smith and I talked about the orgnanizing this summer to save the ACA, much of it organized by ACT UP veterans.
Health care is a right, health care is a right, people screamed as we marched to Senator Schumer's office. After a decade of discussion about healthcare reform, there is a space here to push for something that will actually improve healthcare for everyone. Hopefully we can get there. Single payer is less cumbersome, more cost effective, and better healthcare for all. Medicare for all. We need it now.
At Schumer's office, Milano delivered our letters to the Senator.
Hopefully he hears us.
After the action, Mark Milano posted:
Thanks
to everyone for a great action! The staffers saw how large a crowd we
were, so I know our Senators will get the message that we need them to
fight for our healthcare!
