During the peak of the Occupy movement we chanted, “Governor One Percent, who do you represent?”

And the governor reinstated the millionaire’s tax.

We can do so again.

With a supermajority in Albany, the government will increase revenue.

They need to.

When austerity meets a lockdown, people lose jobs and homes.

Students drop out of school.

Family members continue to get sicker and sicker.

This morning, I joined activists from ACT UP New York, Rise and Resist, Make the Road, and local unions, such as my own, calling the governor to invest in New York’s schools and hospitals and healthcare and economic recovery.

Jawanza, of  @vocal-ny blasted out a message:

Tuesday, 01/05 11AM:

Join us for the Invest in NY campaign launch to tax the rich and end austerity--the cutting of services and economic supports for poor and working New Yorkers. We will meet at Governor Cuomo's Office at 633 3rd ave for a press conference.

@nygovcuomo the time is now for bold action, not austerity. #taxtherich said New York public advocate Jumaane Williams.

@Citizenactionny tweeted:

“We can take care of each other and rebuild our economy if we end tax breaks for the ultra wealthy & #InvestInOurNewYork.

@NYGovCuomo – its time to #TaxTheRich to ensure a fair recovery that works for all New Yorkers.

@MaketheRoad tweeted?:

“While our communities struggle to make rent or feed our families, NY’s 120 billionaires grew $77B richer during the pandemic – to a total net worth of $600 BILLION.”

Greeting friends from all over New York’s activist universe, I watched speaker after speaker make the case for increasing revenue, telling stories of days with no work or money, no food for the kids.

@VOCALNewYork’s board member Reginal Thomas Brown said he was there to call on the governor “to #TaxtheRich and #InvestInOurNewYork so that we can #EndHomelessness, end #Overdose and #EndAIDS across NYS.”

New York can do better.

We have to.

The billionaire’s have done very well in recent years.

It is time for them to pay their fair share.

  1. It is importand to understand that each of our bodies are individual. Unique! It is important to know your own body and to know how it will likely respond to any treatment. An Informed choice is critical. How you make that choice is not easy. Educate yourself. Intuition or fear should not be the critical criteria, Defend the right of each person to control their own body ..it is always a personal choice issue. Never knowingly put any other person at risk. Be kind to your own body and to others
